A fentanyl zuigtablet is a lozenge that dissolves against the inside of the cheek. The fentanyl crosses the lining of the mouth to reach the blood directly, rather than having to pass through the digestive system first. Each unit is supplied loose rather than in a strip.

How to use it. Place it between the cheek and the lower gum and move it around against the inside of the cheek. Suck it, do not chew it, and do not swallow it whole. Chewing sends the dose down into the stomach, where it works slowly and unpredictably instead of through the cheek. One unit should take about fifteen minutes to finish.
Side effects of the fentanyl zuigtablet. Drowsiness, nausea, constipation and a dry mouth are the common ones. Because it acts quickly, drowsiness tends to set in within minutes rather than building slowly. They are not the same product, but close relatives. A zuigtablet is a lozenge that you suck against the cheek, whereas a buccal tablet dissolves in place between the gum and the cheek. As the rate of absorption is different, the strengths of these products are not equivalent, and one cannot be used as a replacement for the other without a prescriber recalculating.
Four episodes a day is the ceiling. If you find yourself needing more than that, it is a signal that the background pain relief is not holding. That is a conversation with your prescriber rather than a reason to take more lozenges.
No, and this is the most important thing to understand about it. Fentanyl products are not interchangeable microgram for microgram. Two hundred micrograms in a lozenge is not 200 micrograms an hour from a patch, and it is not 200 micrograms of another oromucosal product either. They are absorbed differently, so each is dosed on its own terms, and switching between them is always a prescriber's calculation.
